The State Of Our Union Is Strong

Last night reminded so many of us who are often critical of the President that he got elected in the first place because he truly is exceptional at delivering his message to the American people. The State of the Union address is something that many conservatives and libertarians often sneer at because of the monarchical way that it is delivered today. At the same time, however, the annual address to Congress is also a great way for the President to go over the head of the establishment media and speak directly to the American people.
President Trump has such an excellent ability to speak his mind and connecting on a more visceral level with voters. His speech last night was one of the best he has ever given, in my opinion. When President Trump is speaking from the teleprompter, he is at his best. This has been true since the days on the campaign trail, and whenever he gives these kinds of speeches, his approval rating usually gets a pretty significant bump. The problem is that once he gets that bump in the polls, the President goes back to yelling and tweeting absurd things that make voters second guess which President Trump they are actually supporting.
Many of the most impressive moments of the speech last night came when the President honored the men and women who helped us reach the point we are at today. This was one of the central themes of his speech and it tied together the rest of his political points in a way that worked very well. President Trump highlighted some of America’s greatest achievements and used it to show why we should be working towards a better future while honoring our past. Even better was the Democrats refusal to stand for great advancements that have occurred in our country while the President has been in office. Democrats many times throughout the night simply would not stand and cheer for low African American unemployment, low Asian American unemployment, and the creation of new jobs for all American workers. The economy is doing very well right now, it was a stroke of political genius for the President to put Democrats in the position of whether or not to clap for what he is saying. President Trump was able to honor the history of America while making the Democrats look silly by refusing to stand and cheer for things that every single American thinks are good.
A CBS poll taken after the State of the Union found that 76 percent of people polled approved of what they heard. An even more concerning number for the Democrats was that the same poll found 72 percent of people approved of President Trump’s ideas regarding immigration. These numbers should worry the Democrats because if this is the President Trump we get going into 2020, he is going to get re-elected.
In this speech, President Trump took his classic “Make America Great Again” slogan and perfectly laid out why it is an inherently good message and why Democrats who go after it as racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted, or xenophobic are just wrong. “Make America Great Again” is a message of America returning to a time when all of us, regardless of party, believed that America is the single greatest country on Earth. It is a slogan aimed at showing all of us that in America, we should all believe that we can do anything we set our mind to. President Trump also believes in this message, Republicans never stopped believing in this message, unfortunately, Democrats no longer believe in this. Democrats believe that the founding principles of America were rooted in racism, sexism, and oppression of anyone who was not rich and white. They see America as something that must be worked on and constantly improved, whereas Republicans see America as a set of ideas that we must always strive to live up to.
If there was ever a speech that you could see saving the President, it was this one. We are coming off a few pretty bad months for the President and this speech was exactly what he needed. President Trump hit a home run with his message of the greatness of America and the endless possibilities America still has to strive towards. When President Trump stated, “We are born free and we will stay free,” it was a powerful push for American exceptionalism and a denouncement of many on the left who feel that the country should be pushed closer to socialism and further away from capitalism.
America truly is a great country. There has never been a better time to be born in America because in today’s America, every single person has the ability to succeed no matter what circumstances they were born into. We should continue to honor our past in the same way President Trump did last night; we are able to stand on the shoulders of the heroes of our past because they believed in the promise of America. Thanks to that, as Americans today, we truly can do anything that we set our mind to. President Trump highlighted all of that last night, and none of the Democrats attempts at changing the narrative will make any difference.
